Name:tim eichinger Webpage: From: milwaukee, wisconsin, USA Time: 20:08 Date: Nov 12, 1997 Favorite Strong Man: kiri, olaha[hint hint],mvm, badenhorst Comments: i went to primm and had mixed feelings. the
conditions and pace of the events was agonizing.
being a veteran of powerlifting meets i thought
i had seen the worst conditions for spectators
possible but this was worse. but at least at a
powerlifting meet the lifting conditions are good.
the reason there are so many injuries is
because the athletes are made to wait so long
between attempts to accomodate the BBC editing
crew.
i dont think you can compare todays WSM with the past
WSM. the way that Kaz buried his competition early
on i am afraid he would get buried by many of todays
competeitors. the combanation of strength and
endurance is not found in ANY other sport period.
can you see bruce wilhelm competing at his best
against todays WSM. how embarassing.
as far as all you people out there who talk about
being competetive with these athletes, you only
diminish the sport by thinking you could jump in
and compete. shut up and enter if you are so damngood.

Name:Ryan Holmes Webpage: From: Los Angeles Time: 17:05 Date: Nov 13, 1997 Favorite Strong Man: Magnus ver Magnusson, Raimunds Bergmanis Comments: In an effort to save the FAQ page for FAQ's, I'll post my comment here. There's been a lot of talk, both in the FAQ and the Guestbook, about how badly the athletes are treated by the competition's organizers. There's no denying that what happened to Kazmaier was wrong, and it certainly looks like Magnusson, Kiri, and Badenhorst all got screwed over. But apart from those incidents, what I see as the main problem is a lack of organization. In Primm, once the events got started they seemed to proceed at a reasonable pace (the exception to this was the Slot Machine Squat, with that silly light show constantly interrupting). The problem was that the events never started earlier than 90 minutes after the posted start time. The constant waiting must have worn on the athletes, but apart from that, I didn't think they were being treated all that badly. A little foresight by the BBC crew would have made the competition pretty much perfect. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if everyone feels the athletes were being treated unfairly mainly because they were made to wait, then maybe we shouldn't be complaining to the organizers about their treatment of the athletes, but rather their lack of organization. Of course, maybe I missed some messed up stuff that happened to the competitors. If I did, please let me know.

I even heard that in the trials, during the log press competition, the log Magnus' group was pressing was significantly heavier than the other group. Just wait until our hero comes back next year to kick some serious ass.
On a separate note -- Bill -- I noticed that you have the results posted now. Did you get these results from that tall dark-hair woman who showed up at all the events? (By the way, she was pretty hot -- did you catch her name?) Anyway, cool site and go Magnus!
Name:David Hult Webpage: From: Green Bay, WI Time: 21:56 Date: Nov 20, 1997 Favorite Strong Man: Bill Kazmaier Comments: For all those people who think Magnus and Jon Paul
are the strongest men ever need to wake up! They
are definitly strong but are no match for a true
powerlifter like a KAZ or a Don Reinhouldt. Don
squatted 1001 and kazmaier has did a 1055 deadlift.
Those kinds of lifts have never been repeated. Sure
Magnus and Jon Paul have one 4 competitions but if KAZ
would have kept going, he could have won at least
six. BILL KAZMAIER IS THE STRONGEST MAN WHO EVER
LIVED! YES, I'LL MAKE THAT STATEMENT!
Name:whit baskin Webpage: From: oklahoma Time: 22:35 Date: Nov 20, 1997 Favorite Strong Man: don reinhoudt Comments: i agree that reinhoudt and kaz were definitely stronger than magnus and jon pall
even though they were perhaps better strength athletes--anyway don never squatted 1000--his best competition squat was i believe
935--and nobody can do a 1000+ lb. deadlift (partial cart lifts dont count)--bills best official lift was 880-something though he did do
900+ in exhibitions--i think kaz was probably 2nd strongest all time--paul anderson is definitely first though--a 6270 back lift, numerous 1000-1100+ squats,
585*2 push press, and a raw 627 bench and 820 plus deadlift (pre-powerlifting era) with very little practice on the lifts----buy pauls autobiographical
video out of powerlifting usa or milo

Name:Dan Webpage: From: Texas Time: 14:05 Date: Nov 22, 1997 Favorite Strong Man: Big KAZ Comments: There is no doubt about it, Bill Kazmaier is the all-round strongest man who ever lived! KAZ deadlifted 1055 lb. while injured. These new guys only pull in the 900's, at best. Mr. Kazmaier did 969 lb. in the squat during the 1981 WSM, quite easily I might add. The big deal here is that he was only 27 when he did it. Long before his prime. And what's the big deal with Jon Pall Sigmarsson? He wasn't that good! Just look at his main competition: An aging, out of shape Geoff Capes, an injured O.D. Wilson, and Big Kaz, who was hampered by injuries in the late 80's. FACE IT: BILL KAZMAIER IS THE STRONGEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED!!!

There are more talented strongman but no one gets as much out of themselves as he does. Too bad about the prison sentence though, if its true. These atheletes are great and everything but why is it when discussing who is the strongest of all time, everyone forgets just who this is, Paul Anderson. No athelete past or present can hold a candle to his lifts, which were done I may add before steroids. For anyone whos never heard of him get the tape about his life and prepare to be astounded. 300 pound dumbell presses? 900 pound squats done with no spot, wraps, belt, suit, warmup, and done lower than they squat now and not to mention he did them effortlessly. Nobody can come close to him today even with all the equipment and steroids they use. Give the man his do, anyone else is a distant second, even Kaz. Get the tape and you decide.
