As there was no World's Strongest Man contest in 1987, the Pure Strength competition served as somewhat of a replacement for it that year. The competitors were certainly formidable - each being a winner of the World's Strongest Man Competition at least twice. Sigmarsson was in his prime and dominated, winning 8 of the 10 events. Capes was injured and dropped out midway through the competition.
