The first Grand Prix Strongman event of 1998 was dominated by the current WSM champ, Jouko Ahola. Magnus Ver Magnusson proved that he's still got it by coming second, and surprise newcomer, Juha Tuhkasaari of Finland, did well to place fifth. Riku Kiri, Berend Veneberg, and Heinz Ollesch each competed with injury and it showed - Riku dropped out after 5 events, Ollesch after just 4 events, and Veneberg after 6.
