He was also a top international bodybuilder and has been an IFBB Pro. He started in Strong Man Contests in 1996 and found that he enjoyed them more than any other sports in which he'd taken part.

Svend was in strong contention for the 1997 title, but tore a muscle in his leg warming up for the squat and was unable to continue competing. He was unable to compete in the 1998 competition after he contracted a serious viral illness. He has since recovered and is looking forward to many more years of competition.
